Segments and Boundaries

Once a GeoMatch is active, the correlation between your two wells is broken into segments, intervals between boundary points along the Vertical Section.

Once a GeoMatch is active, the correlation between your two wells is broken into segments, intervals between boundary points along the Vertical Section. These tools let you add, adjust, and clean up those boundaries. All of them require GeoMatch mode to be active (the tools were found in the toolbar's GeoMatch group), several also require you to have a specific item selected first.

Add Segment

A toggle button. Click it once to turn on "add segment" mode (the button shows an active state while it's on). While active, clicking on the plot between two existing segment boundaries inserts a new boundary at that Vertical Section position, splitting the interval in two.

This only works while GeoMatch mode is active and a valid segment boundary already exists to click inside of, it's not available before you've created a GeoMatch.

Thickness Change

Another toggle button, for adjusting a segment's thickness by interacting with its connecting line (the "linker") on the plot directly, rather than typing a number.

Reset Segment

Select a segment boundary on the plot first, then click Reset Segment to reset that segment back to its calculated position, discarding any manual adjustment you'd made to it.

Hide / Unhide

Select an item (typically a segment boundary), then click this button to toggle its visibility on the plot. The icon and tooltip flip between "Hide" and "Unhide" depending on the current state.

Deleting a Segment Boundary

Covered in the Editing doc, but worth repeating here since it's really a GeoMatch action: with a segment boundary selected, the toolbar's Delete button removes it, but only if it isn't marked as structurally necessary. Boundaries the calculation depends on can't be deleted this way.

What's Next

Part 3 covers Connect and reference wells, tying additional offset wells into an active GeoMatch. Part 4 covers Synthetic Log.
